Ambulatory Care and Outpatient Pharmacy Committee
The focus of this committee is to support the unique needs of ambulatory and outpatient pharmacy colleagues in health systems. We aim to strengthen and support pharmacy development in areas such as: reimbursement pathways, drug therapy management agreements, and collaboration across different practice areas. We also have a strong focus in community service and continuing education opportunities. This committee meets the first Wednesday of the month at 5:00 PM.

Antimicrobial Stewardship
This is an area of critical importance for pharmacy to be involved in developing and participating in programs regarding the appropriate use of antimicrobials. I hope that many of you will join us to formulate more than just guidelines but practice with “some teeth” to combat antimicrobial resistance.

Educational Programs Committee
This committee plans and organizes the content and educational activities for the two MSHP seminars, one in the spring and one in the fall. Educational activities address the current practice interests of our diverse membership as well as professional development. This committee meets the first Thursday at 1:00 PM.

Emerging Practitioner Committee
This committee is responsible for developing educational and development opportunities for students and residents in our state. They also provide networking and leadership opportunities for pharmacy trainees. Example of activities that this committee organizes include the MSHP Residency Showcase and a research event at the Spring Seminar.

Legislative Affairs Committee
The Legislative Committee is committed to maintaining an active role in Maryland and national regulations and legislation important to pharmacy practitioners. As a member organization of the Maryland Pharmacy Coalition, this committee also collaborates to host a Legislative Day education session for the annual Legislative Day activities in Annapolis.

Medication Safety Committee
This committee promotes patient and medication safety in Maryland by developing best practice guidelines, proposing initiatives to prevent medication errors, and providing medication safety focused education to pharmacist and pharmacy technicians in the state of Maryland.

Membership Committee
This committee is responsible for increasing our membership, but also to increase active member participation. Projects include student/resident activities, student scholarship(s), pharmacy technician pilot recruitment initiative, and institutional memberships. This committee meets virtually the second Tuesday of the month at 4:00 PM.

Pharmacy Technician
This committee is working to enhance Pharmacy Technician awareness of and participation in MSHP. Its goals include addressing the educational and informational needs of Pharmacy Technician members and providing a forum to facilitate communication and sharing of ideas and best practices related to Pharmacy Technician roles and responsibilities in health-system pharmacy. Attendance at committee meetings is facilitated through teleconferencing.

Publications Committee
The publication committee is responsible for content and editing for the quarterly MSHP newsletter. To provide quality articles on medication use topics as well as inform our members of society and pertinent state and national pharmacy news.
Councils and Workgroups
Industry Advisory
It is the responsibility of this council to make recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding the interaction of MSHP with the pharmaceutical industry. This includes advising the Board regarding professional and legislative matters which may impact the relationship of MSHP with the pharmaceutical industry and making recommendations regarding the role of the pharmaceutical industry in MSHP activities.
