The Maryland Society of Health-System Pharmacy represents its members affiliated with institutional and other organized health care settings in the state of Maryland. The mission of the organization is to provide leadership in promoting high quality pharmaceutical care in these settings by:
- Providing opportunities for continuing education and exchange of information for and among its members,
- Advancing pharmacy as an essential component of the health care team through public and professional awareness efforts, and
- Promoting the development of properly qualified candidates into the institutional environment. Furthermore, MSHP will actively work to safeguard the integrity of institutional pharmacy practice.

Membership Categories
Pharmacists - Licensed pharmacists who have an interest in health-system pharmacy Pharmacists in good professional standing, whose practice is primarily in hospitals or nursing homes, managed care facilities, or home care inclusive of educational or administrative positions
Resident/Fellow - Individual currently enrolled as a pharmacy resident or pharmacy fellow
Associate - Associate members may be individuals who work as hospital pharmacy technicians, hospital pharmacy inspectors, instructors, instructors of prospective hospital pharmacists, or anyone else who contributes to hospital pharmacy.
New Graduate - Licensed pharmacists who have graduated from a five or six year school of pharmacy in last calendar year
Senior - Current or previously licensed pharmacists of age 60 or greater
Student - Student members shall consist of any undergraduate student of an accredited School of Pharmacy.
Technician - Technicians who have an interest in health-system pharmacy
Supportive Personnel - Other personnel working in a health-system pharmacy

Study groups and exam blogs have been created where members can can post their names and contact information to find a study group. Legislative Advocacy and Action - Working through its Legislative Committee, MSHP represents your views in the state legislature and in the development of regulations that affect your practice.
Public Relations and Community Service - MSHP promotes and educates the public about pharmacists’ roles within the community. Our members participate as volunteer pharmacists at the Maryland State Fair, the Baltimore Flower Mart as well as free health clinics in Baltimore City. Members also make regular presentations about pharmacy carriers to University, Community College and HIgh School students
BiAnnual Seminars - Two all day seminars are offered in the Spring and then the fall that provide a well coordinated mix of continuing education lectures and workshops. These seminars also include a morning pharmacy technician education track; an industry exhibition; and a chance for colleague networking.
Peer Recognition - The MSHP's Awards Program is designed to recognize outstanding professional achievement in several categories. Awards presented in the spring include: Pharmacy Technician of the Year and the Medication Safety Award. In the fall the Pharmacist of the Year, Jeffery Ensor Emerging Leader, Industry Representative of the Year as well as the W. Arthur Purdum Awards are presented. Nominations for these awards can be submitted by any MSHP member. Nominations are promoted in the MSHP Newsletter as well as through e-mail blasts. .
MSHP Pharmascript - Published every other month, all members receive a copy via e-mail of the MSHP Newsletter. The newsletter includes articles on new clinical developments as well as information of member activity and upcoming Society activities. Support - MSHP supports the Pharmacist Education & Advisory Council (PEAC) PEAC provides assistance to the chemically impaired pharmacist. The Council will intervene and take appropriate action so that the impaired pharmacist can have a chance to treat the dependency as an illness and save his/her career, and improve mental and physical well being. The committee monitors and provides proper referral for rehabilitation. The committee educates pharmacists and other health professionals and family members about the disease of chemical dependency and the recovery process.
